A 46-year-old Haverhill man, driving a tractor-trailer unit, and a 16-year-old Amesbury driver and passengers in a Honda SUV, escaped injury after a crash Friday afternoon.
New Hampshire State Police said, at about 2 p.m., the 16-year-old merged onto Interstate 95 South in Portsmouth, N.H., into the path of a 2012 Freightliner tractor with an enclosed 30-foot trailer. The Freightliner’s driver, Luis Vasquez, took “evasive actions” that resulted in the Freightliner striking the center dividing guardrail, causing the truck and trailer to overturn. The unit came to rest perpendicular to the roadway and was blocking both a northbound and southbound lane.
Troopers also found a 2016 Honda Pilot that was disabled in the southbound lanes.
A portion of I-95 was closed for about five hours while emergency personnel worked to investigate and clear the incident scene. New Hampshire State Police Troop A were assisted on scene by Troop G, Portsmouth Police Department, Portsmouth Fire Department, New Hampshire Department of Transportation, New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services and National Wrecker Service.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact Trooper First Class Harrison Walters at [email protected].
