Mayor James J. Fiorentini will be honored with an “Appreciation for Leadership Award” when members of the Merrimack Valley Chamber of Commerce meet Wednesday for the organization’s annual dinner.

When Fiorentini’s term ends Dec. 31, he will have led the city 20 years—the longest-serving mayor in the city’s history.

During the dinner, state Auditor Diana DiZoglio also addresses Chamber members and guests.

DiZoglio, who represented the region during her two terms in the state Senate and three terms in the House, was elected state auditor last fall, succeeding retiring Auditor Suzanne M. Bump. Her 2021 candidacy was seen at first as a long shot, but she went on to beat her Democratic primary opponent, former Assistant Transportation Secretary Chris Dempsey, and then Republican Anthony Amore in last fall’s final election.

She promised to audit the state legislature despite protests from each branch and is spearheading a ballot question to ensure her office will always have the authority and responsibility to do so.

Honors to be presented are the Ralph B. Wilkinson Good Citizenship Award Recipient, Michael Sullivan, Sgt. Johanny Rosario Pichardo house rehab coordinator; Emerging Leader, Bill Deluca IV of Bill Deluca Family of Dealerships; Non-Profit Award, Karen Frederick of Community Teamwork; and Business Development, Juan and Luis Yepez of Yepez Properties.

The Merrimack Valley Chamber of Commerce annual dinner takes place Wednesday, Oct. 4, beginning at 5 p.m., at Michael’s Function Hall, 12 Alpha St., Haverhill. Tickets are $125 per person or $1,200 per table and may be reserved by calling 978-689-0900 or online at MerrimackValleyChamber.com.
