Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll and other officials are scheduled to visit Northern Essex Community College’s Lawrence campus tomorrow to celebrate a new law that grants in-state tuition rates for those undocumented immigrants who have graduated from high school here.
Gov. Maura Healey last week signed the current year budget which allows undocumented students who have gone to high school in Massachusetts for at least three years and earned their high school degree or equivalent to qualify for in-state tuition and financial aid at Massachusetts public institutions of higher education.
Besides Driscoll, others participating in a press conference on, what’s being called, a “Tuition Equity Celebration,” are Senate President Karen E. Spilka, Education Secretary Patrick Tutwiler, Massachusetts Department of Higher Education Commissioner Noe Ortega, Massachusetts Immigration Refugee Advocacy Coalition Executive Director Elizabeth Sweet, Northern Essex Community College President Lane A. Glenn, Salem State University President John Keenan and other higher education leaders and local officials.
