Haverhill residents and visitors will be able to enjoy a leisurely stroll along the Rep. Brian S. Dempsey Boardwalk this summer while, at the same time, reading a good book.
The City Council approved last week a request by the Haverhill Public Library to post a series of panels along the railings downtown between Haverhill Heights and the Landmark Building beginning later this spring. Chance Lee Joyner, of the library explained the idea.
“We have some story panels from story books that we would like to post around town. We posted these along the Bradford Rail Trail last year and we would like to relocate it to the riverwalk boardwalk this year,” he said.
Joyner said books were chosen because of their positive messages and artwork. He said each book would be about 24 panels in length and each panel would be rain and wind resistant.
The Council also gave its approval to a request by the First Church of Christ in Bradford to, once again, have free public concerts at Bradford Common Friday nights, beginning July 9 and running through Aug. 20. Concerts were cancelled last year due to the coronavirus.
With the stipulation that all COVID-19 guidelines are followed, councilors approved the request by a vote of 8-0 with Council President Melinda E. Barrett abstaining because her property abuts the Common.
