Methuen Police Remind Residents Visits are by Appointment; Gun Permit Processing Begins

The Methuen Police Department is reminding the public it is open by appointment only.

Residents may make appointments by calling 978-983-8698. Some issues can be resolved remotely or with an officer dispatched to homes or businesses. An officer will return calls for those matters requiring a visit to the police department.

Residents who applied for a license-to-carry will receive a call within the next two weeks to schedule a fingerprinting appointment. Fingerprinting timing has been impacted over COVID-19 exposure concerns for both residents and processing officers. Appointments will be scheduled in the order that the applications where received.

For non-emergency matters, residents may continue to call the department business line at 978-983-8698 to speak with a dispatcher or an officer. Minor reports will be taken over the telephone.  If necessary, an officer will be dispatched to take a report on the scene. Reports are not taken over social media.

Residents should dial 9-1-1 for emergencies or, for incidents requiring an immediate response, residents should call dispatch at 978-983-8698.
