Dave Macaulay, known to WHAV listeners as “Dave Mack,” passed away suddenly Monday morning.
He was host of the “Rock ‘n’ Roll Oldies Party,” heard over WHAV Saturday afternoons for the past three years. After recovering from heart surgery and then COVID-19, Dave Mack returned to WHAV just this past Saturday, where he received a warm welcome back and gifts from WHAV General Manager Tim Coco. His producer Mark Kalashian, who was also heard on the show welcoming Dave back, says he began as a fan listening to Dave more than 30 years ago.
“I remember listening to him in the late 70s, early 80s, and we actually met at Lite 92.5. He was there,”
Kalashian, who appeared on the “Rock ‘n’ Roll Oldies Party” as “Mark with a K,” explains Dave’s long-lasting appeal to listeners.
“He’s very eloquent. He has such a great speaking voice and he knows the music well. He’s a great DJ. He makes it fun. He pleases the listener. He was just wonderful,” he says.
Dave Mack was heard over the original WHAV, and its former sister station, WLYT, from 1988 to 1990. He has also been heard on a wide range of stations including WVBF, WMEX-1150, WNTN, WESX, WNSH, WORC, WSPR, WVNH and WNBP.
He was 68. Funeral arrangements will be announced.
