Haverhill school officials are crediting the “see something, say something” policy for uncovering an unloaded pellet gun Friday at the Dr. Albert B. Consentino School.
In an email to parents, Consentino Principal John Mele and Assistant Principal Richard Poor said a student brought the pellet gun to school and, as soon as the school administration became aware of it, the gun was taken away.
“The superintendent of schools and Haverhill Police Department via our SRO (School Resource Officer Gillian Brignac) were immediately notified and appropriate action will be taken in accordance with school policy and applicable laws,” the statement said.
In a statement, Superintendent Margaret Marotta said, “We are thankful to the student who had the courage to say something that seemed concerning and to the teacher who brought this to the attention of administration quickly and appropriately. When we all work together, emergency situations can be diffused quickly and safely.”
Mele and Poor asked parents to remind their students “what is appropriate to have in their possession on school grounds.”
Haverhill School Committee members were also notified of the incident.
