The public has opportunities to shape policy this week as various Haverhill boards meet. In the interest of transparency in government, WHAV provides this list of upcoming meetings every week.
They’re not quite ready to stick shovels in the ground, but there’s progress on plans to rehabilitate or replace the Dr. Albert B. Consentino School.
The first meeting of the Consentino School Building Committee takes place today at 3 p.m., in the school administration office, room 104, at City Hall, 4 Summer St. Mayor James J. Fiorentini is serving as chairman. The committee includes Superintendent Margaret Marotta, Consentino Principal John Mele, Facilities Supervisor Heather Forgione, School Committee members Scott W. Wood Jr. and Gail M. Sullivan, Haverhill architect Paul Bergman, Purchasing Director Steve Bucuzzo, City Auditor Chuck Benevento, City Councilor Joseph J. Bevilacqua, Building and Inspections Director Richard Macdonald, Fiorentini’s Chief of Staff Allison Heartquist and Consentino teacher Victoria Hernandez-Bailey.
Haverhill is spending $750,000 from the city’s surplus to pay for a state-required feasibility study of the Mount Washington middle school. A little more than a year ago the Massachusetts School Building Authority declared the school eligible for up to 70% reimbursement from the state.

Monday, Feb. 3
Haverhill License Commission meets Monday, Feb. 3, 6 p.m., in the Theodore A. Pelosi Jr. City Council Chambers, room 202, Haverhill City Hall. Commissioners have scheduled a number of show cause hearings to determine whether rules have been violated. Those answering to the Commission are Moonshiners Lounge, 101-103 Washington St., possible liquor overserving; and Dream Team Auto Group, 100 White St.; Express Motors, 117 Winter St.; Welcome Motors, 25 Welcome St.; Cars4U, 194 River St.; and White St. Motors, 69 White St.—all for possibly having a number of automobiles in excess of licenses.

Haverhill City Council holds a hearing on a petition from Steve and Caprice Pascoe to build 27 rental units, described as mostly one-bedroom units, at 235 Essex St; on a vacant lot adjacent to O’Reilly Auto Parts Store. Apartments average 550 square feet each with shared work and entertaining space in the common areas as well as shared roof deck/green space. Members also receive the first two appointments to a Council-approved Agricultural Commission— Maura Bailey, 462 Boxford Road, and Tyler Kimball, 791 East Broadway. Councilors meet Tuesday, Feb. 4, in the Theodore A. Pelosi Jr. City Council Chambers, room 202, Haverhill City Hall.
Wednesday, Feb. 5
Haverhill Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial Ad Hoc Commission views an artist’s rendering of the future Mill Brook Park, receives an update on grants and hears reports from its raffle and golf subcommittees Wednesday, Feb. 5, 6 p.m., in room 204, Haverhill City Hall. (Postponed from Jan. 22.)
Thursday, Feb. 6
Haverhill School Committee’s Policy Subcommittee discusses, among other items, policies surrounding allowing certain employees to work from home. It is an issue raised by School Committee member Toni Sapienza Donais, who asked “Who gets in on this?” The Committee meets Thursday, Feb. 6, 8:30 a.m., in the School Administration Conference Room, room 104, Haverhill City Hall.
