A 37-year-old Methuen man was sentenced Wednesday to two years in prison for misusing a Social Security number and aggravated identity theft.
Frank Alejandro Brea Sabala, a Dominican national, pleaded guilty to the charges last June. Federal prosecutors say Brea Sabala submitted a handwritten application for a Massachusetts Motorcycle Permit at the Lawrence Registry of Motor Vehicles Aug. 2, 2017. At the time, he used the name, birth date and Social Security number of someone from Puerto Rico and checked off that he was a United States citizen. He also previously obtained a Massachusetts license in the victim’s name. On Oct. 3, 2018, a search of Brea Sabala’s home found expired Massachusetts licenses in the victim’s name but contained his photographs, as well as a Social Security card and birth certificate in the name of the victim.
U.S. District Court Judge Leo T. Sorokin sentenced Brea Sabala to two years and one day in prison and three years of supervised release.
Methuen Police Chief Joseph E. Solomon was credited with assisting the investigation.
