Drivers traveling Haverhill’s I-495 northbound should be prepared to shift from the existing bridge to the new median roadway and northbound bridge starting on Monday night, Sept. 30, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation tells WHAV. The shift will run from 8 p.m. on Sept. 30 through 5 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, at which time the existing bridge will be taken out of service for demolition.
Temporary overnight lane closures and short-term closures of the Exit 48 (Ward Hill Connector) on-ramp) and Exit 49 off-ramp on Monday night are expected so that pavement markings can be installed on the new roadway.
Once the realigned roadway is in place, three northbound travel lanes will take drivers over the bridge and through the work zone. As construction continues, the new speed limit on I-495 North will be reduced to 55 MPH, MassDOT said.
