Today’s Obituaries—June 10: Emmett, Goldman, Powell

Noreen Emmett, 56, of Haverhill, died Friday, June 7, with her children by her side after a long, battle with lung cancer. She spent many years working in taxes and bookkeeping. Visitation is Wednesday, June 12, at Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 S. Main St., Haverhill, from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society at donate3.cancer.org.

Nancy J. (Howell) Goldman, 76, of Haverhill, died Wednesday, June 5, at Wingate at Haverhill. She began her teaching career as a substitute in the Amesbury school system prior to becoming a full-time teacher in the Wilmington school system beginning in the mid-1990s until her retirement in 2007. Calling hours are Monday, June 10, from 5-8 p.m., at the H.L. Farmer and Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St., Haverhill. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date at the Alton Bay Christian Conference Center.

Henry “Hank” Powell, 86, died June 7 in Haverhill. He was a CIC Naval Air Officer whose missions from Hawaii to Alaska were often interrupted so that he could play baseball against rival military teams in Chicago. Powell established the Powell Family Scholarships at UMass Lowell and supported access to college education for students from Lawrence and Lowell. He co-founded Powell Corporation, a non-woven manufacturing company, in Haverhill. Arrangements are by the H.L. Farmer and Sons Funeral Homes, Bradford and Haverhill.
