Haverhill’s pre-teens and teens now have a gym to call their own thanks to Melanie Capalbo’s Essex Street space Rise Movement Studio. City dancer Capalbo tells WHAV her 2,000 square-foot location at 145 Essex St., near Kruger’s—opening for business this weekend—offers more than 20 classes that run the gamut from abs to Zumba.

Offered on a drop-in basis with no commitment, a 30-minute class costs $10, while a 60-minute sweat session runs $15. Flexibility and a family-friendly atmosphere is what sets Rise Movement apart, Capalbo tells WHAV.

“Mom can take a yoga class while her child takes a Zumba class for pre-teens,” she tells WHAV. “I just feel that there’s not enough out there for kids. There’s dance studios and ninja gyms, but kids can’t go to a gym with a parent and they need it, too.”

To get to know her new neighbors Capalbo plans a grand opening April 14, with free 30-minute classes held from 2-7 p.m. For more information, call 978-551-1772.
