Key legal issues that can make or break a startup company are the focus of a workshop taking place next week at UMass Lowell’s Haverhill Innovation Hub.

Lawyers from Boston-based Foley & Lardner plan to discuss “Company Formation and Intellectual Property” as part of iHub’s monthly Entrepreneur Development Series. Representatives are expected to provide a practical insight-oriented overview of typical legal startup issues the firm has seen from the trials and tribulations of hundreds of startups it has represented. The presentation includes type of company structure, understanding of intellectual property rights and ownership and managing employees through contracts, equity or payroll.

The seminar takes place Wednesday, March 13, at 5:30 p.m. at the Innovation Hub, 2 Merrimack St., third floor, Haverhill. Register by calling 978-934-5560 or online at uml.edu/ihub.

This is the third event in the entrepreneur series. Each month, the series explores business and startup issues including operations management, financing, strategic partnering and more. The goal of the series to help entrepreneurs develop skills to grow their businesses while engaging and networking with likeminded people from the Merrimack Valley.

Future topics and dates include “Raise It, Structure It, Manage It: Understanding Financing and Accounting,” April 10; “Elevate your Brand: Find success in Marketing and Sales,” May 8; and “Strategic Partnering and Collaborations,” June 19.
