A 20-year-old Haverhill High School graduate has been identified as the victim in Thursday’s deadly drive-by shooting in the city’s Mount Washington neighborhood.
City man Nike Colon was shot while sitting in the passenger seat of a vehicle at the corner of Washington and Shepherd Streets just after 5 p.m., according to Carrie Kimball-Monahan, a spokeswoman for Essex County District Attorney Jonathan W. Blodgett. The incident took place near Riley’s convenience store and Benedetti’s deli.
After the shooting, the driver of the Dodge ram pickup truck drove to Haverhill City Hall on Summer Street, parking in the rear lot near Newcomb Street. Medical aid was rendered at that scene, and Colon was transported to Haverhill’s Holy Family Hospital before being airlifted to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, where he died from his injuries.
Kimball-Monahan declined to provide information about suspects or a motive, citing the active nature of the investigation by Haverhill and State Police, along with detectives assigned to the district attorney’s office.
