The Haverhill City Council gave its okay this week for the city to negotiate a property tax break to bring Edwards Vacuum to Haverhill’s Broadway Industrial Park. The complete destruction of a Highlands home by fire Tuesday forces investigators to conclude the cause remains “officially undetermined.” Haverhill Fire Chief Robert M. O’Brien said, however, the two-alarm fire at 3 Maplewood Terrace began in the basement of the single-family home. A former Methuen man pleaded guilty this week in federal court in Boston to conspiracy to distribute more than 40 grams of fentanyl and misusing a Social Security number. Twenty-nine-year-old Bladimir Sanchez Soto pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute 40 grams or more of fentanyl and false representation of a Social Security number. …
