97.9 WHAV ♦ April 14, 2023 ♦ Public Media of New England, Inc.
Dear reader,

Today’s marks an important milestone in Haverhill radio history.

Growing beyond AM radio, the first WHAV-FM signed on 75 years ago today. With few FM receiving sets and the domination of AM radio at the time, this first launch of WHAV-FM didn’t last. WHAV was ahead of its time and, thanks to members like you, it still is.

Today’s 97.9 WHAV is part of a national trend of listener- and small business-supported nonprofit local news services stepping up to fill “news deserts” left after the collapse of other news media. Everyone benefits from an informed community. Help maintain and expand this local service with your monthly membership by clicking here. If you are already a current donor or member, community members thank you for keeping them informed.
