Does WHAV ‘Beg’ Too Much?

It is a fair question and one all civic, cultural and other nonprofits across the Merrimack Valley wrestle with continually. WHAV, like others, provides a valuable and, arguably, critical service.

In fact, democracy doesn’t work without informed citizens. What we see in plain sight across the country is that fewer people hold their governments accountable and fewer people run for office or vote when local news disappears. Those who listen to WHAV or read or hear its local news on other platforms are not blindsided by looming issues such as building new schools, public safety, housing construction, health and environmental concerns and others.

The more residents and businesses give, the less time WHAV will devote to asking. For now, support Greater Haverhill’s only public radio station and nonprofit local news service by reviewing the many giving options here.
