Almost There!

Nonprofit WHAV is nearing its annual fundraising goal and stresses new donations are “better late than never.”

This might have been said of Massachusetts Lt. Gov. Arthur W. Coolidge who, with his wife, braved a winter storm 75 years ago this month to attend the dedication of the downtown studios. WHAV announcer Ken Ash, who was broadcasting live from the Whittier Hotel in Washington Square, ended the dinner broadcast certain that Coolidge had turned back. The microphones were hastily turned back on though as the lieutenant governor made his late entrance.

“We just can’t believe such a modern station could be constructed. I’ve never been in one like it,” Coolidge told guests.

As WHAV moves back to the art deco-styled studios downtown, the radio station needs your “housewarming gift” to meet its end-of-year goal. Giving is easy too. Just click here.
