Haverhill High Student Interviews Top Singer During WHAV’s Studio Opening 75 Years Ago

When popular singer Vaughn Monroe visited WHAV during its December 1947 studio opening, he was interviewed live not only by staff announcer Ken Ash, but also by a Haverhill High School student.

WHAV has mentioned Monroe being besieged by a hundred “bobby soxers” during his visit, but his reaction to the studio building is also worth noting. Monroe was interviewed in the large Studio A during “Haverhill Houseparty” by Betty Richard of Haverhill High School’s Brown and Gold newspaper.

“It certainly rates at the top and is an ideal layout for radio broadcasting purposes,” Monroe said, adding, “This is something of which your city can well be proud.”

As WHAV moves back to the art deco-styled studios downtown, the radio station needs your “housewarming gift” to meet its end-of-year goal. Giving is easy too. Just click here.

Today is the last day of the Early Challenge. Early Contractors will make your donation worth more by matching donations dollar for dollar up to $1,500 when donations reach $2,500.
