WHAV Fall Membership Drive Remembers John Katsaros

John Katsaros, a World War II hero, was shot down in France, taken prisoner by the German Gestapo and described his escape in his book “Code Burgundy – The Long Escape.” A few years after the war, he responded to WHAV’s call for help and stayed 27 years. During WHAV’s Reunion of the Radio Stars in 2016, he explained.

“All of a sudden, they decided they were going to have sports on WHAV, especially football, but nobody there knew anything about football except Ken Ash. He asked me if I would go help and be a color man for him and a spotter and that’s how I started in broadcasting football.”
