Receive Free Cake
Courtesy of Emily’s Bakery
Call the Open Mike
Show Mondays to Win!
The
WHAV Open Mike Show is giving away one free cake every Monday to listeners
celebrating a birthday or anniversary. Each week a new fresh-baked
cake, donated by Emily’s Bakery, is awarded to a lucky
listener.
For an opportunity to win listeners need only to call the Open Mike
Show, which airs live on Monday nights from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Dr.
Samuel J. “Zyk” Levitan, of Haverhill, became the first winner Feb. 8
and will receive a Strawberry and Cream cake made with real cream.
“This is what local radio is all about, keeping area residents informed
and entertained with hearty participation by area consumers and small
businesses alike,” said WHAV President and General Manager Tim Coco.
Established in 2003 by Emily X. Durning, the bakery is located at
Haverhill’s Riversedge Plaza, 233 Lincoln Avenue. Each
dessert is created from scratch and is made using only real cream and
natural ingredients. Emily’s Bakery is nut-free, making it a safe
alternative for those with food allergies.
The show, hosted by long-time talkmaster Jack Bevelaqua, is heard on
the Internet at WHAV.net, cable television in several area communities,
mobile phones and a low-power AM radio station at 1640. A special
televised show may be seen online at WHAV.TV or channel 22 in Haverhill.
Besides being eligible to win a free cake, all new Open Mike Show
callers receive a pair of iPod-style ear buds and a bumper sticker.
Special Program
Note: The Open Mike Show will not be seen on Haverhill Community
Television Channel 22 Monday, Feb. 15, because of Presidents Day. To
watch, tune in at www.WHAV.TV or listen at www.WHAV.net, www.WHAV.mobi
or on AM 1640. |

Alum Ron Chapman to be Inducted into Broadcasting Hall Of Fame
Chapman Started
Work at WHAV in 1953
WASHINGTON
— Legendary Texas radio personality Ron Chapman, who got his start at
WHAV in 1953, will be inducted into the National Association
of Broadcasters (NAB) Broadcasting Hall of Fame April 13.
Chapman has been heard on the airwaves in the Dallas/Fort Worth area
since the 1950s. He began his radio career after high school graduation
at WHAV in 1953 where he worked alongside Edwin V. Johnson. After
broadcasting for the U.S. Army in Korea, Chapman worked at WNHC, New
Haven, and was shortly thereafter recruited to Dallas’ KLIF. Chapman
spent six years at KLIF, co-hosting the highly successful “Charlie
& Harrigan Show,” before joining WFAA-TV in Dallas. In 1968,
Chapman joined a team that purchased KVIL-FM, a station known for
pioneering the Adult Contemporary format. He remained at KVIL-FM for 32
years, serving as program director, music director, promotion director
and morning personality.
“Ron Chapman has delighted radio listeners with his humor and charisma
for more than 50 years,” said NAB Executive Vice President of Radio
John David. “We look forward to honoring his many contributions to the
radio community during the NAB Show Radio Luncheon.”
In the late 1990s Chapman joined KLUV-FM, an oldies format that saw
high ratings upon his arrival. He retired in 2005, but was summoned
back to radio a few years later when ABC asked him to become the
regular substitute for “Paul Harvey News.” Chapman is a multiple
inductee to the Texas Radio Hall of Fame.
