Report to Consumers Host Ernie Sprance.
‘Report
to Consumers’ Now Airs Weekdays on WHAV
Special
Broadcasts From the Editors of Consumer Reports
“Report to Consumers,” a 90-second product
review feature from the editors of Consumer Reports, now airs three
times daily on WHAV.
Host Ernie Sprance provides money saving
tips, alerts consumers to safety and health issues and offers product
comparisons. “Report to Consumers” is heard on 290 radio
stations across the country. The program airs at 7:45 and
11:45 a.m. and 3:45 p.m., Monday through Friday.
“Report to Consumers” well complements
WHAV’s daily array of interesting and informative
features. The program joins other short form shows such as
“Community Spotlight,”
“Business Bulletin,” “Little Known Facts” and “It’s the Law,’” said
Public Affairs Director Karen McDowell. News, weather and “Seton
Notes,” commentary presented by former Barbara Walters producer Tony
Seton, are also broadcast daily, she said.
WHAV is heard on the Internet at WHAV.net, cable television in several
area communities, mobile phones and a low-power AM radio station at
1640.
The WHAV call letters have been associated
with local broadcasting since 1947. For nearly five years, the WHAV
call has been heard on the Internet at WHAV.net and a number of public
access cable television stations in Andover, Groveland, Haverhill and
Methuen. Low-power AM radio service at 1640 and mobile phone service
was also recently inaugurated. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
recently awarded WHAV’s current owner federal protection from service
mark infringement. WHAV is one of the fastest growing Internet radio
stations, ranking in the top 10 percent of all Internet radio stations.

‘Yours
Truly Johnny Dollar’ Joins Sunday Night Lineup May 30
Hear ‘America’s
Fabulous Freelance Insurance Investigator’
Johnny Dollar
was the last of radio’s great detectives. His
role was unusual in that he was a freelance insurance investigator
based
in Hartford, Conn. He traveled the country – sometimes the world –
after being hired by
insurance companies to guard against paying false claims. Besides
earning
commissions on what he saved his clients, Dollar was known for lavishly
living on his
“action packed expense account.” At the end of each assignment, he
signed the
expense account and case notes, “Yours Truly Johnny Dollar.”
Veteran film actor Edmond O’Brien began
playing the role of Johnny
Dollar in 1950 – where WHAV picks up the half-hour series. Programs are
heard in original broadcast order at 10 p.m., Sunday nights.
Radio drama was declining during the 1950s
as television came on the scene. However, a few series continued to
draw
large numbers of listeners and survived into the early 1960s. WHAV
presents
these digitally remastered programs at 10 p.m. (repeated at 1 a.m.),
every weeknight.
