As Dow Drops, Business Bulletin Rises
Daily Stock Market Wrap Draws More Listeners

It probably comes as no surprise to many that as the economy tanked and the stock market fell, the numbers of listeners tuning in to hear the Business Bulletin skyrocketed.

The daily stock market wrap is heard on the final edition of Business Bulletin at 5:15 p.m. on StreamingSuperstation and 5:45 p.m. on WHAV. Two earlier editions at 9:45 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. focus on local business calendar or personnel announcements.

Westwood One anchors Bill Rogers and Gary R’nel (above) not only deliver the numbers for the Dow, S&P 500 and Nasdaq, but also explain the driving forces behind the scenes.  All this plus related news highlights and energy prices – all in one minute.

Advertising on the Business Bulletin begins at only $6 for a full, professionally produced 30-second commercial. Call (978) 374-2111 today to reach this tremendous audience.

WHAV mourns passing of Steve Amirault

Former colleagues and listeners alike were shocked and saddened March 1 to learn of the passing of Stephen M. Amirault, 62, former WHAV vice president.

Amirault joined WHAV shortly after the Internet station was launched five years ago. He oversaw programming, staffing and advertising. He had 20 years of experience in the broadcasting industry, working as a disc jockey, announcer, production director, program director and account manager at radio stations throughout the Merrimack Valley.

During his career, he held positions at WCCM, Methuen; WVCA, Gloucester; WGAW, Gardner; WNBP, Newburyport; WLLH/WSSH, Lowell; WBBX, Portsmouth, N.H.; WCAP, Lowell; and WLYT, Haverhill.

Formerly of Haverhill, Amirault lived in Atkinson, N.H. with his wife, Beverly.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Lahey Clinic Cardiology Fund c/o Philanthropy Dept., 41 Mall Rd, Burlington, MA 01803.

‘Jack in the Box’ (Jack on TV) Draws New Generation of WHAV Listeners

More listeners are tuning in to the Open Mike Show after discovering they can see host Jack Bevelaqua on their TV sets Monday nights.

The live show still originates from WHAV’s Ward Hill studios, but a special video feed allows viewers of Haverhill Community Television to watch.  When additional bandwidth becomes available, the television offer will be extended to other cable television stations across the Merrimack Valley.

If you were listening to the Open Mike Show last Monday night, you heard Jack call for a nationwide boycott of advertisers heard on radio stations that air Rush Limbaugh. If that wasn’t enough, Jack gave an unfavorable critique of the Haverhill City Council’s new TV show and suggested the construction of the “Jack Bevelaqua Memorial Skywalk” across Merrimack Street. The pedestrian skywalk would help efforts to revitalize the former Woolworth’s department store.

Jack has also praised the cleanliness of Andover’s downtown and criticized Methuen’s decision to rollback voter approval of reduced penalties for marijuana possession.

State Representatives Brian S. Dempsey and Barry R. Finegold are tentatively scheduled to appear on upcoming shows.

The Open Mike Show with Jack Bevelaqua will be heard and seen again Monday night from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Listeners may call (978) 374-1900 or e-mail [email protected] . Audio from the show is rebroadcast at 6:30, Thursday nights. See the box at left to find out how to listen in your area.

Underwriting the Open Mike Show begins at only $20 each for a full, professionally produced 30-second commercial. Call (978) 374-2111 today to reserve your spot.
