Viewers of Haverhill Community Television (HCTV) Channel 22 were surprised to see Jack Bevelaqua and the Open Mike Show last Monday night.

TV Audience Embraces ‘Open Mike Show’ with Jack Bevelaqua
Call (978) 374-1900 Monday Nights

The Open Mike Show with Jack Bevelaqua was not only heard by fans live last Monday night, but seen by them on Haverhill Community Television (HCTV), channel 22.

The fourth show in the revived Monday night series was delivered to television viewers thanks to a special digital hookup between WHAV’s Ward Hill studios and HCTV on Elm Street, Haverhill. It was not the first time WHAV and HCTV have worked together, but the first time technology has enabled live video to be transmitted in full-size and reasonable quality over the Internet. HCTV and WHAV have shared audio during election night coverage in the past.

“Cooperation between local media provides the best means of serving the public interest during this age of tight budgets, media consolidation and proliferation of digital choices,” said WHAV President and General Manager Tim Coco. “Thanks go out to HCTV’s dedicated staff for giving of their time and talent to make the live telecast possible.” Coco explained he and HCTV Executive Director Darlene M. Beal discussed the possibility of the live telecast only two weeks before. HCTV Operations Manager Matt Belfiore worked with WHAV staff to test available and new technologies, firming up a plan only two days before the Open Mike Show aired.

Calls to the Open Mike Show increased over previous weeks with City Councilor Dave Hall being the first public official to call the program since it returned to the air after a 14-year hiatus. Other listeners called to discuss various issues or compete for free giveaways.

The Open Mike Show with Jack Bevelaqua will be heard and seen again Monday night from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Listeners may call (978) 374-1900 or e-mail [email protected] . Audio from the show is rebroadcast at 6:30, Thursday nights.

Sponsorship opportunities are limited. For more information, call
(978) 374-2111.
