Commentary by Veteran Journalist Tony Seton Now Airs on WHAV

“SetonnoteS,” a daily two-minute commentary by Tony Seton, is now airing weeknights after the 6 and 11 p.m. news on WHAV.

In one of his first commentaries on WHAV, Seton gave listeners a sense of his views. He warned the bump in the polls John McCain received by naming Sarah Palin as his running mate may not endure. “After another two months of lower home values and high prices for food and fuel, the sharp bite of the Gorgeous Gov may not be enough to overcome the gnashing teeth of angst over the economy,” Seton said.

“Conventional radio already well represents the homogenized conservative viewpoint.  As an independent local station, WHAV is pleased to offer listeners Tony’s refreshingly different, well-reasoned and articulate observations,” said WHAV General Manager Tim Coco. “Agree or not, Seton’s dry wit is sure to captivate the audience.”

Seton is a veteran broadcast journalist who covered Watergate, eight elections, five space shots and produced Barbara Walters’ news interviews. He also won several national awards for his production of ABC’s business-economics news. After leaving the network, he wrote, produced, directed and reported two award-winning half-hour public television programs, “Mother Nurture” (2002) and “Divorce – Collaborative Style” (2003). His radio credentials include hosting a weekly call-in program on KNRY and directing sales and research at KXTC, both of Monterey, Calif.; hosting “InFormation with Tony Seton” in San Francisco and earning the highest market ratings for his “Newsmaker” interviews and “SetonnoteS” commentaries on KQMS, Redding, Calif. He also filled in as host of the nationally-syndicated “All-American Talk Radio.”

A writer, Seton has published several books, including an industry handbook called “Don’t Mess with the Press / How to Write, Produce and Report Quality Television News” and a how-to guide for interviewing, “The Quality Interview / Getting It Right on Both Sides of the Mic.” He is also an adjunct professor at the Monterey Institute of International Studies.
