Longtime Educator Barry Kittredge Dies at 69

Barry Kittredge, 69, a lifelong resident of Haverhill, longtime administrator at several city schools and owner of local businesses, died Monday.

Kittredge was a lifelong educator with a career spanning many years in teaching and administration at various Haverhill schools including, Consentino, Hunking and Haverhill High School, retiring in 2007 as assistant principal.

He was born in Haverhill, Dec. 23, 1947, son of the late Clarence and Beatrice (Garavanta) Kittredge. He graduated from Haverhill High School, Salem State and received his master’s in education from University of Massachusetts Lowell.

He and his wife Andrea (Manning) were married 45 years. During that time, they owned Mr. K’s Auto School, as well as Kittredge Insurance Agency in Bradford. He loved sports and his activities included being a basketball and softball referee, football announcer and coach of various sports teams. He was an avid golfer and longtime member of the Haverhill Country Club. Kittredge enjoyed being with his grandchildren at the beach.

Besides his wife, he leaves his children, Timothy Kittredge and wife Tarrah of Milton, Ga., Daniel Kittredge and wife Leah of New Canaan, Conn., and Beth Stepan and husband Timothy of Hingham; grandchildren, Lexi, Nate and Ellison Kittredge, Isabelle and Harry Kittredge, and Hunter and Wyatt Stepan; siblings, Debra Huberdeau and husband Richard of Haverhill, Donna Mears of Haverhill; several nieces and nephews; and many close friends.

Visiting hours are Wednesday, May 24, at Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 S. Main St., Haverhill, from 4 to 8 p.m. Services begin Thursday morning in the funeral home at 9:30 with a funeral service in Sacred Hearts Church, 165 S. Main St., Haverhill, at 10:30 a.m. Burial follows in Elmwood Cemetery, Haverhill.

  1. Mr. Kittredge was a great man in my life. He was my 7th grade homeroom & Science teacher at Consentino. I will NEVER forget Mr. Kitteredge and his kindness. God Bless him & his family; I am very sorry for your loss.
