Editor’s Note: The annual Cycle for Shelter bike ride benefitting Emmaus takes place on Sunday, July 22 at Northern Essex Community College. Ahead of the event, WHAV is profiling several riders and sharing why they ride. Here, WHAV gets to know rider Sue Cullen.
A 40-mile bike ride is a long time to be alone with one’s thoughts, but ahead of the 2018 Cycle for Shelter, wellness coach Sue Cullen is up to the challenge.
The reiki and meditation practitioner tells WHAV she’s taking a mind-over-matter approach to the course and plans to stays motivated by keeping those helped by Emmaus in mind.
“Your brain can either create success or failure,” explained Cullen. “I thought to myself, ‘You cannot even complain about this, because you have a home to go to.’ I can go home, take a shower, get warm. I’m riding for people who are homeless and don’t have their own place.”
Joined by a team of four local riders, the High Vibration Wellness owner says giving back through Cycle for Shelter inspires a positive outlook all year round.
“It builds your soul when you give back. There was a time when the best thing I could give was a smile,” Cullen tells WHAV. “Now, I realize that’s powerful.”
Leading up to the event, Cullen is donating a portion of the proceeds from her privately booked reiki sessions to Emmaus. To donate to Sue Cullen’s Cycle for Shelter ride, visit Emmausinc.org
