This past Monday’s Open Mike Show with Frank Komola saw visits with four local guests. Attorney Joseph C. Edwards gave his thoughts on sports, while Michael Young discussed his father Ernie’s new book, “Hillies, 125 Years of Haverhill Football.” Young is the editor and publisher of this two-volume book of statistical history. Also, Author Michael Cormier also returned to discuss his new play, “Saltonstall’s Trial,” and Haverhill’s connections to the famous Salem Witch Trials; and Paul A. Magliocchetti discusses the Shoe City Pro Circuit bicycle race Sunday, Aug. 27 around downtown Haverhill. Open Mike Show is heard Monday nights, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Bonnie Sisson, development coordinator at Elder Services of the Merrimack Valley, will be in studio to preview the agency’s upcoming golf event and the programs the tournament supports. Carbone Reveals Best Outdoor Grill Practices on Open Mike Show

Haverhill Beef’s Peter Carbone gave 97.9 WHAV FM listeners grilling tips and plenty of do’s and dont’s during Monday night’s Open Mike Show. Carbone, owner of the longtime butcher shop at 117 Merrimack St., appeared with host Frank Komola. Later in the program, Paul White, judge advocate for the Haverhill Veterans Council, previewed the arrival of the “Wall That Heals,” a half-size replica of the Vietnam Memorial Wall coming to Haverhill June 15 through 18. Open Mike Show host Frank Komola in the Edwin V. Johnson Newsroom. Just in time for summer, tonight’s Open Mike Show with Frank Komola focuses on the backyard grill. Peter Carbone, owner of Haverhill Beef on Merrimack Street, will be in studio for The Open Mike Show on Monday evening to talk all things grilling. With summer weather in full swing, Carbone discusses charcoal grilling, smokers and gas grilling techniques. Marinade suggestions, recipes for meat rubs and cooking methods for spare ribs, chicken and beef are also on the night’s menu!

First Open Mike Show with Komola Features Live Talent from ‘Diva’

Lauren Sprague performs “The Girl in 14-G” live on Open Mike. Frank Komola took over the reins of the Open Mike Show Monday, maintaining a more than 50-year tradition of local talk radio and introducing more live talent. For his first program, Komola previewed “Diva,” an all-female cast of singers, appearing at a concert benefiting the Cogswell Artspace Initiative, Thursday, June 8 at 7:30 p.m., at First Church of Christ, 10 Church St., Bradford. Guests included Tina Fuller, Jaime De Simone and Lauren Sprague. Sprague performed “The Girl in 14-G” live.

Hilldale Cemetery Repairs Near Completion as Holiday Approaches

Fence repairs are nearing completion at Hilldale Cemetery just in time for Memorial Day. Appearing on 97.9 WHAV’s Open Mike Show Monday, Thomas Spitalere said more than $3,000 has been raised towards a goal of $4,500 to replace fence posts and related hardware. “The work for the fence. More than half the fence has been completed from Jeffery Lane to the gate is done. So, we just need from the gate to the city pauper’s cemetery to be finished.”

Spitalere said he had an interest in cemeteries from a young age.
