Paul J. Heffernan, 86, of Newton, N.H., and formerly of Haverhill, passed away at Exeter Hospital last Wednesday afternoon, May 4, with his loving family at his side. Heffernan bravely fought health challenges for many years and fell tired just short of his 87th birthday. Born in Haverhill on June 4, 1935, he was the son of the late John P. and Mary E. (Cronin) Heffernan and attended Haverhill schools. As a young man, he served as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army. Later in life, he attended Northern Essex Community College in Haverhill and graduated with honors, earning an associate degree in arts, liberal arts and broadcasting, an accomplishment that he and his family were very proud.

Richard “Rick” Earle Seaman, 72, of Londonderry, N.H., formerly of Haverhill, passed away April 3, Parkland Medical in Derry. He was born in Haverhill on Oct. 28, 1949, son of the late Earle W. Seaman Jr. and Norma I. (Fitts) Seaman. He was educated in Haverhill and attended UMass Lowell and then Northeast Broadcasting in Boston. He was employed as a DJ at WKNE in Keene, N.H., for several years.

Timothy F. Shanahan, 70, passed away unexpectedly March 21, at his home in Haverhill. Born in Haverhill, he was the son of the late Joseph W. and Eileen F. (Boner) Shanahan. He was a graduate of Pentucket High School, class of 1969. For over 35 years he was employed as at the Raytheon Company. When his children were young, he coached their Little League Baseball teams and also coached in the Tri-Star Little League.

Sandy J. “Baz” Basiliere, 66, a resident of Haverhill for most of his life, died peacefully at his home Sunday, March 20, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Detroit, Michigan, son of the late Leon Basiliere Jr. and Thelma (Roop) Basiliere, he moved with his family to Haverhill where he was raised and educated. Basiliere attended the former Haverhill Trade School and served in the U.S. Army as a private first class from July 8, 1974, to March 3, 1976, during the Vietnam War. Employed as a truck driver for most of his working career, he worked first at the Haverhill Paperboard and later Essem and Por-Shun. A member of the Haverhill AmVets Post 47, he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

Whittier Tech Instructor Robert E. Denoncour, Former Regan Ford Technician, Dies at 75

Robert E. Denoncour, 75, of Haverhill, died March 10, at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen. Denoncour was born in Methuen, son of the late Camille and Theresa (Sheehan) Denoncour and was raised in Haverhill and attended Saint James Grammar School. A member of the Haverhill Trade School, class of 1965, he also attended Fitchburg State College. A master technician, certified by ASE, he was first employed as an auto technician at Regan Ford in Haverhill. In 1986, he assumed a position as an automotive technology instructor at Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High School, a job he thoroughly enjoyed until his retirement in 2012. He was a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association and the Whittier Regional Teachers Association.

Tamar Anoush Bucci, Massachusetts State Trooper, gave her life in the line of duty on March 4, while helping a disabled vehicle. Bucci was pronounced deceased at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston where family and thousands of members of law enforcement gathered to support their fallen sister. Bucci was born on March 2, 1988 in Melrose, and was raised in Andover. Tamar was beautiful from the inside out. When she walked into a room people were drawn to her magnetic energy.

Plourde, 69, husband of Jody (Chisnall) Plourde, of Plaistow, N.H., formerly of Haverhill, passed away Friday at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen after being stricken suddenly at his residence. Born in Methuen, he was the son of the late Roland C. and Therese (Proulx) Plourde. Raised and educated in Haverhill, he attended St. Joseph Grammar School and was a graduate of Haverhill High School, class of 1971. He also attended Bentley College.

Claire F. (Nugent) Sullivan, 93, who served as executive secretary for five Haverhill High School principals over 41 years died Friday, Feb. 18, at Hay-Maderia Hospice, Stuart, Fla. Sullivan, of Jensen Beach, Fla., and formerly of Haverhill, was born in Haverhill on May 14, 1928, daughter of the late Neil F. and Esther (Woodman) Nugent. Educated in the Haverhill school system, Mrs. Sullivan graduated from Haverhill High School, class of 1945, and Colby Junior College, now Colby Sawyer College, New London, N.H., class of 1947. She retired from Haverhill Public Schools in 1988.

James E. Simmons, of Haverhill, a former WHAV program director, died peacefully last Saturday afternoon at age 95. Simmons died after a period of declining health at Mary Immaculate Nursing and Restorative Center in Lawrence, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Haverhill, Dec. 21, 1926, he was the son of the late Percy J. and Ruth G. (Boody) Simmons. He grew up in Amesbury, attending Amesbury schools and graduated from Amesbury High School.
