A 64-year-old North Andover man was charged last week in federal court for allegedly being a convicted felon in possession of more than 30 firearms and explosives. Daniel Medina was charged by criminal complaint with unlawful possession of a machine gun, unlawful possession of explosives as a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition. As WHAV reported in July, Medina is currently in state custody on related charges and will appear in U.S. District Court in Boston at a later date. Medina, of 59 Village Green Drive, North Andover, was previously charged by the state with five felony counts tied to being a felon in possession of a firearm, possessing and improperly storing an automatic rifle and vandalizing property. He pled not guilty last July in Lawrence District Court.

Police Arrest Methuen Man for Alleged Lawrence Murder Saturday Morning

A 33-year-old Methuen man was arrested Wednesday in Boston for last Saturday morning’s murder of a man in Lawrence. Thomas A. Pizarro was arrested “without incident” by the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section, said Essex County District Attorney Paul F. Tucker’s office. Pizarro was arrested for the alleged murder of 33-year-old Steven Hernandez of Lawrence and is expected to be arraigned Thursday in Lawrence District Court. Tucker’s office said Lawrence Police were dispatched at 7, Saturday morning, after receiving a report of shots fired. Police found Hernandez suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

Lawrence Man Pleads Not Guilty in Connection with Murder of Woman Left in Haverhill

The Lawrence man, alleged to have killed his neighbor and dumped her body in Haverhill, was arraigned Wednesday afternoon in Lawrence District Court. Thirty-five-year-old Cristian Montero pled not guilty and was ordered held without bail after being formally charged with the murder of Carol Flaz-Burgos, age 37, of Lawrence. Flaz-Burgos was first reported missing Saturday, Aug. 31, and found dead Sept. 3 at a wooded area near Kenoza Lake in Haverhill.

Haverhill Police Seek Driver Who Struck Four Cars Downtown

Haverhill police are looking for the driver of a pickup truck who crashed into a car on the opposite side of the street and then went on to hit three parked cars Monday night in downtown Haverhill. Haverhill Deputy Police Chief Stephen J. Doherty Jr. told WHAV the driver of a Chevrolet truck was driving west around 8 p.m., on Essex Street, passed a car turning left onto Granite Street and struck a Chevy Malibu traveling in the opposite direction. The truck went on to hit three parked vehicles. “The operator of truck fled the scene on foot,” said Doherty. Following Autopsy, Police Upgrade Charge Against Lawrence Man to Murder

A 35-year-old Lawrence man, already being held for allegedly misleading an investigation, now faces a charge of murder in connection with the death of a woman, whose body was found in Haverhill. Cristian Montero is schedule to be arraigned Wednesday in Lawrence District Court for the alleged murder of Carol Flaz-Burgos, his neighbor The murder charge follows a medical examiner’s autopsy of the body of the 37-year-old woman. Flaz-Burgos was found last Tuesday, Sept. 3, in the Kenoza Lake conservation area in Haverhill. At a press conference that night, Essex County District Attorney Paul F. Tucker suggested additional charges against Montero could follow the autopsy.

Plaistow, N.H., Police Arrest Three Minors After Investigation of Attempted Convenience Store Break

Plaistow, N.H., Police have arrested three minors in connection with an attempted convenience store break in last month. Starting with shift officers and continuing with Plaistow detectives, police investigated the Wednesday, Aug. 14, early morning attempted break at Quick Mart, 18 Plaistow Road. Police Chief John J. Santoro said in a release Monday, investigators were able to identify a vehicle and suspects after following several leads, viewing video surveillance and processing evidence. The investigation led to several other New Hampshire and Massachusetts communities where similar break-ins occurred.

Methuen Police Charge Two 14-Year-Old Students After Second Bomb Threat Hoax

Two 14-year-olds were charged Sunday by Methuen Police for making bomb threats against Methuen High School—a day after a similar threat, deemed “not credible” was made Saturday against a city elementary school. Police Chief Scott J. McNamara revealed the latest incident Monday, saying police identified three suspects and charged two juveniles in connection with multiple threats made against the Methuen schools over the weekend. Students and parents reported the latest threat Sunday, Sept. 8, at 8:30 p.m., to Methuen Public Schools. Officials notified police of the “second, more specific bomb threat,” made on social media against Methuen High School.

Methuen Police Conclude School Bomb Threat Made by Grammar School Student Not Credible

A bomb threat, allegedly made on social media Saturday by a grammar school student, against Methuen’s Donald P. Timony Grammar School was quickly ruled “not credible.”
Methuen Police Chief Scott J. McNamara reported Sunday that Methuen Police Department learned of the threat from the Federal Bureau of Investigation Boston Field Office. Officers immediately notified Methuen Public Schools officials and began an investigation into the threat. McNamara said “Threats made online, whether intended as a joke or a serious act, are not only alarming but are taken extremely seriously by law enforcement. Any threat directed at schools, students, staff or the public will be thoroughly investigated, and those responsible will face significant legal consequences. Beyond that, these threats cause undue fear and anxiety, disrupt education and drain valuable law enforcement resources.

Haverhill Police Allege 25-Year-Old Spray Painted and Marked 38 Sites with Graffiti

A 25-year-old man, accused of spraying and marking graffiti at 38 private and public sites Sunday, was ordered Tuesday to return to Haverhill District Court next month to answer to the charges. Alexander M. Jarboe of Locke Street was arrested by Haverhill Police Monday and arraigned Tuesday before Judge Cesar A. Archilla on 38 counts of defacing property, also known as “tagging.” He was released on $1,500 cash bail and must return to court Friday, Oct. 18. According to Haverhill police reports, Jarboe allegedly used spray paint and paint markers to deface buildings such as Historic New England, fences, mail boxes, city-owned signs, trash bins, a MeVa bus shelter, electrical boxes and donation bins beginning early Sunday morning. He allegedly struck targets along River, Winter, Locke, Emerson, Walnut, Essex and Merrimack Streets; Lafayette Square; Hilldale Avenue; and the Rep. Brian S. Dempsey Boardwalk.
