Peddler’s Daughter is looking for golfers and hole sponsors for its 26th Annual Golf Tournament to benefit Somebody Cares New England. This year’s tournament will be held on Monday, June 23, beginning with registration at 7:30 a.m. and tee time at 8 a.m., at the 18-hole Bradford Country Club, 201 Chadwick Road. Golfers can participate for $150 each. Hole sponsorships are also available for $150. Registration comes with a cart, tee shirt and gift bag followed by lunch, awards and a raffle at Peddler’s Daughter, 45 Wingate St., Haverhill.

AgeSpan Seeks Nominations to Honor Five Worthy Seniors

AgeSpan, a regional elder services nonprofit, is seeking five seniors who have a passion for learning. Five older adults who represent AgeSpan’s commitment to help people live vibrant, purposeful lives as they age will be honored with the agency’s Inspiring Lifelong Learning Awards at its annual meeting in November. Northern Essex Community College President Lane A. Glenn will serve as keynote speaker. Organizers say nominations should include stories or examples of how the nominee is pursuing education, learning new skills or engaging in personal growth. They should be 60 years old or older and live in one of the 28 communities AgeSpan serves.

Atkinson Women’s Civic Club Readies for Artisan Market

The Atkinson Women’s Civic Club is gearing up for its popular spring Artisan Market. This year’s market will be held on Saturday, June 14, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Atkinson Community Center, 4 Main St., rain or shine. The event will feature 75 local crafters and food vendors along with a gift basket raffle and a 50/50 contest. Uncharted Watah will perform country, classic rock and rockabilly music. The Atkinson Women’s Civic Club uses proceeds from the event to support community organizations and projects in Atkinson.

Tattersall Farm Plans Guided Stargazing Night Friday

Amateur astronomer Mike McDougal will be back at Haverhill’s Tattersall Farm for another public Guided Stargazing Night next month. McDougal and other members of the North Shore Amateur Astronomy Club, will set up telescopes and help the public find the planet Saturn, star clusters, binary stars, nebulae and faint galaxies Friday, June 6, beginning at 9 p.m., at the farm, 542 N. Broadway, Haverhill. If the forecast is rainy or overcast, the event will take place Saturday, June 7, at the same time. Visitors are advised to follow the red glow sticks from the parking lot to the observing area and asked not to use flashlights or flash photography as they approach the telescopes. Bug repellant is advised and dogs are not permitted.

Haverhill Multicultural Festival Brings Music, Food, International Wares June 14

This year’s Multicultural Festival, planned by the Haverhill Cultural Council, features familiar favorite performers and new acts. The free festival is Saturday, June 14, from noon to 6 p.m., at the Grand Army of the Republic Park, opposite Haverhill Public Library on Main Street. The event is rain or shine. In case of inclement weather, it will move to the Haverhill Citizens Center, 10 Welcome St. “The mission of the Multicultural Festival is to celebrate the diversity of our community,” said organizer McKenna R. Jennings.

NFI Offers ‘Kick Off to Summer’ Fun Fair

Kids of all ages are invited to NFI HOPE’s “Kick Off To Summer” fun fair. Program Director Charlie Manzi said local nonprofit organizations have been invited to participate. “We are focusing on kids with this event,” he said. The fair will feature outdoor games and food including hot dogs, popcorn and cotton candy. Pridestar Trinity EMS will be on hand with an ambulance and the Haverhill Police Department will have a resource table.

Weather Forces Cancellation of Whittier Birthplace Cultural Arts Day

Predicted heavy rain has caused the cancellation of the Cultural Arts Day scheduled for tomorrow, May 31, at Whittier Birthplace, 305 Whittier Road. The annual outdoor event was to feature artists in a variety of mediums.
Director Kaleigh Pare Shaughnessy said the forecast wasn’t in their favor to host an outdoor event. Tours of the historic house are available by prior reservation. The approximately one-hour tour explores the Whittier family’s lives on the Haverhill farm and the early life of the abolitionist and poet John Greenleaf Whittier. Scheduling takes place online at WhittierBirthplace.org/tours.

Printing Museum Offers Colonial-Era Printing Demo

Andy Volpe is coming to Haverhill’s Museum of Printing to demonstrate how Paul Revere printed paper money to pay for the American Revolution. The event, free with museum admission, is offered Saturday, June 7, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the museum, 15 Thornton Ave., Haverhill. In addition to promissory notes, Volpe will print his poster commemorating the 250th of the start of the American Revolution which is based on a replica of the copper plate Revere used. Volpe will also discuss the tools and techniques a printer in the colonial era would have used. This event is supported in part by the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism.
