Greater Haverhill Arts Association Spring Art Exhibit Runs Through May 18

The Greater Haverhill Arts Association is presenting a Spring Art Exhibit featuring members’ works in oil, acrylic, watercolor, colored pencil, digital art and stained glass. The display is the latest in the second year of an ongoing series of quarterly exhibits of favorite artworks from the studios of members. Art is on display to the public through Saturday, May 18, during regular hours in the main floor hallway at Penacook Place, 150 Water St., Haverhill.

Haverhill Public Library Offers Class on Basics of Microsoft Word Saturday

The Haverhill Public Library plans a class free class this Saturday on the Basics of Microsoft Word. In the introductory class, participants will learn how to create text-based documents, as well as how to complete simple actions like saving, opening and printing documents. It takes place Saturday, March 23, from 11 to 12:30 p.m., at the library computer lab, 99 Main St., Haverhill. Buttonwoods Offers Saturday Talk on the Nation’s Second Ladies, Including Haverhill’s Abigail Adams

Buttonwoods Museum is celebrating Women’s History Month by telling behind-the-scenes stories of vice-presidential spouses, including Haverhill native Abigail Adams, at a free talk Saturday. Northern Essex Community College Professor of History Rich Padova shares insights from his book “Who Are They? A Look at Vice-Presidential Spouses from Abigail Adams to Karen Pence” Saturday, March 23, 3 p.m., at Buttonwoods Museum, 240 Water St., Haverhill. The museum says attendees will “discover the remarkable stories of these influential women, often overlooked in popular history despite their significant roles as second ladies. Admission is free thanks to the support of the Cummings Foundation.

Second Chance For Sight Plans Charity Social March 23

Second Chance For Sight, founded to empower individuals and families impacted by visual impairments caused by trauma, plans a fundraising social with dinner, live music and games. The social takes place Saturday, March 23, from 5-10 p.m., at Wicked Axe, 721 S, Main St., Haverhill. General admission tickets are $80 each and includes music, dinner, axe throwing, golf simulator, darts, pool and Jenga. Separate admission includes all features plus entry for two into a Cornhole Tournament, featuring up to 25 teams, for $160. Sponsorships are also available for $250.

Author McIntyre to Speak in Haverhill on the War on Facts and Fighting Back

Lee McIntyre, author of “On Disinformation; How to Fight for Truth and Protect Democracy,” speaks in Haverhill on the same topic at an upcoming event by Greater Haverhill Indivisible. The author speaks on how the war on facts began and how ordinary citizens can fight back. McIntyre is a research fellow at the Center for Philosophy and History of Science at Boston University and an instructor in Ethics at Harvard Extension School. He also has his doctorate in Philosophy from the University of Michigan. He is also well known for his most recent book “How To Talk To A Science Denier.”

The free talk takes place Saturday, April 6, from 1:30-3:30 p.m., at the Universalist Unitarian Church, 16 Ashland St., Haverhill.

Haverhill’s Tattersall Farm Plans Introduction to Backyard Beekeeping Program April 7

Those interested in “Backyard Beekeeping” have an opportunity to learn when Frank Valadao of Soney Bees provides a demonstration at Haverhill’s Tattersall Farm. Topics include how to find a good location for a hive, assemble it and install a package of bees or five-frame Nuc. Information on maintaining and feeding honey bees, harvesting the bees and preparing hives for winter will also be included. Valadao is a local beekeeper and sells his products at 274 Lincoln Ave., Haverhill. The demonstration takes place Sunday, April 7, at 1 p.m., rain or shine, at Tattersall Farm, 542 N. Broadway, Haverhill.

Whittier Birthplace’s Virtual Lecture Series to Feature History of Rocks Village Neighborhood

Lydia Harris and Susan Bailey of the Rocks Village Memorial Association discuss “A History of the Rocks Village Neighborhood in Haverhill” during the March edition of Whittier Birthplace’s Virtual Lecture Series. Harris and Bailey talk about connecting Whittier to Rocks Village through the poem, “The Countess.” Topics include Dr. Weld; the countess herself; the De Poyens; Blacksmiths; witches; toll keepers, the ferry, the bridge, taverns, churches and the Merrimack River. Some myths will be also highlighted and claims disputed. The lecture takes place Thursday, March 28, from 7-8 p.m., online. There is a suggested donation of $10 per household.

Atkinson’s Kimball Library Displays Works by Haverhill Artist Pixie Yates During March

Paintings by New York City and Haverhill-based artist Pixie Yates are on display this month at Atkinson’s Kimball Library. Yates, a designer and an illustrator and educator, shows her original watercolors and acrylics illustrating “color-drenched flowers, seagrass, sunsets, cafes and shop windows, cocktails, perfume bottles and more.” According to her biography, “Inspired by urban life, everyday objects and the natural world particularly her childhood summers in Cape May Point, N.J., Pixie is known for her dreamy, effervescent, color-drenched style that invokes a sense of style and delight.”

Works are on display Mondays through Thursdays, 9:30 a.m.- 8 p.m.; Fridays, 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m.; and Saturdays, 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m., at Kimball Library meeting room, 5 Academy Ave., Atkinson, N.H.
