Free Children’s Vision Screening Certification Program Takes Place in Haverhill July 18

Haverhill Promise, in conjunction with Haverhill Public Schools, is hosting a free children’s vision screening course for educators, nurses, parental volunteers, and anyone who work with children ages 3-5. The Thursday, July 18 course, sponsored by Children’s Vision Massachusetts and the National Center for Children’s Vision and Eye Health, along with Prevent Blindness, takes place at the Haverhill Public Library’s auditorium from 1-5 p.m.

Participants receive a certification upon completion of the course and all training materials, resources, technical assistance, and support is provided free of charge. For more information, call Shanyn at 978-420-1919.

Haverhill Fire Department Corn Hole Tournament at Crescent Yacht Club Is Aug. 17

Get those bean bags ready, Haverhill! The Haverhill Fire Department is hosting a corn hole tournament on Saturday, Aug. 17 at the Crescent Yacht Club, 30 Ferry St., with signups at 12:30 p.m. and play at 1 p.m.

Food and a 50/50 raffle are also planned. Tickets are $60 per team with early bird pricing available. Proceeds are being donated to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Haverhill resident Joshua Nolan is a seaman in the United States Navy working as part of a crisis response team in the in the Coral Sea, his military command staff tells WHAV. Nolan, stationed on the USS Green Bay, has been deployed to assist with a variety of military operations on the ship, which serves as a “ready response vessel” capable to act in any type of emergency, the Navy’s communications team said.

The 12th Annual Bradford Common Outdoor Music Series Starts July 12

Time to move and groove! The Bradford Common Outdoor Music Series runs for six Friday nights, from July 12 to August 16, and features a host of local musicians. The free concerts take place on the lawn of the Bradford Common, Route 125, South Main Street, Bradford, from 6– 8:15 p.m.

First Time Homebuyer Course Starts on July 10

Tips and tricks for purchasing a home are on the agenda for Community Action’s First Time Homebuyer Education Course. The program, designed for area residents, offers comprehensive information from a number of different housing professionals including bank lenders, buyer/seller real estate brokers and housing attorneys. Information regarding foreclosure sales, area affordable housing lotteries and payment assistance programs will also be provided. The dates for the three-night course are July 10, 11, and 16, and a Massachusetts Homeownership Collaborative-approved certificate is awarded upon the completion of the class. Classes take place at the Presidential Gardens apartment complex in Bradford at 140 Evergreen Drive.

Roaring Twenties Dance Ball Is July 14 at Winnekenni

Haverhill: It’s time to travel back to the 1920s! The vintage dance and picnic, hosted by the North Shore Swing Dance Group. The event, starting at 1 p.m., takes place at Winnekenni Castle, Castle Road, 347 Kenoza Ave. Online registration is $36. Starting off the morning, the Haverhill Board of Assessors meets at 9 a.m. in room 115 of City Hall, 4 Summer St., Haverhill. Later, the Haverhill Housing Authority meets to review and approve the June 2019 disbursements, receivables, and vacancy report, as well as the Washington Square Façade Replacement project at 4 p.m. in the housing authority offices, 25-C Washington Square, Haverhill.

Touch-a-Truck Is Coming to Haverhill on Saturday, June 29

Haverhill kids: get ready for a day of fun, games, and trucks. The city is bringing a “Touch-a-Truck” event to Haverhill on Saturday, June 29. Held at the public works department, 500 Primrose St., the afternoon offers children of all ages a chance to interact with a variety of different vehicles including police cruisers, motorcycles, fire engines, ambulances, and highway vehicles. Food, games, and other activities are provided. The event kicks off at 10 a.m. and runs until 1 p.m., with a rain date of June 30.
