Man Dies in Rollover Crash on Interstate 495 in Haverhill

By WHAV News Staff | 1 hour ago

State Police confirm one person died as a result of a single-car crash and rollover Friday afternoon on Interstate 495 south in Haverhill. First responders were dispatched about 2:30 p.m. to a report of an accident with an occupant trapped inside in the median near the Broadway/Route 97 overpass. Haverhill Fire Department and Trinity EMS were first on scene. There was an initial call for a medical airlift and second ambulance, but the requests were cancelled as the outcome became clear.

Several of Haverhill’s new or promoted leaders rolled up their sleeves Thursday morning, heard from veterans and pledged to do their parts to resolve transportation, communications bottlenecks and other issues. Mayor-elect Melinda E. Barrett and incoming Councilors Ralph T. Basiliere, Ward 1; Katrina Hobbs-Everett, Ward 2, and Devan M. Ferreira, Ward 3, met with leaders of Veterans Northeast Outreach Center to learn about day-to-day issues and better understand how the city may be able to better help. The meeting was organized by Basiliere, who served last year as interim veterans services officer for the city and spoke publicly about his personal association with the organization.

Crooked Yellow Lines on Haverhill’s Washington Street Brings Red-Faced City Workers

A well-intentioned effort to beat the seasonal clock and repaint some yellow lines instead brought some red-faced city workers, but there was no other harm. Crooked road surface markings on upper Washington Street that became joke fodder were covered up this week and repainted Thursday. Shawn Regan, spokesman for Haverhill Mayor James J. Fiorentini, said the Highway Department set out to do the right thing when a city contractor got backlogged and couldn’t complete the road painting job.
