At Month’s End, Remember to Support…
Local News Without ‘Fear or Favor’
The long-held standard of journalism ethics and integrity was eloquently defined in 1896 by New York Times Publisher Adolph Ochs.
It is unfortunately common in these times for audiences to try to discern whether a news outlet is taking sides. As Ochs laid it out, though, WHAV’s approach is to “give the news impartially, without fear or favor, regardless of party, sect, or interest involved.”
WHAV also acknowledges it is also the job of journalists and publishers to call out ethical and legal lapses of which they become aware in the course of diligent news reporting. These tenets are spelled out for all to see in WHAV’s mission.
“WHAV, Greater Haverhill’s only public radio station and nonprofit local news service, strengthens local democracy, promotes civic engagement and holds government accountable by reporting accurate, reliable and trustworthy information on-air, online, everywhere.”
