A 23-year-old woman died early last night in Methuen after being struck by a car.

Methuen Police Chief Scott J. McNamara said in a release the accident took place Tuesday, March 11, at 7:11 p.m., in the area of 301 Merrimack St., Methuen. McNamara said police were dispatched after receiving a report of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle.

Upon arrival, police officers discovered the woman suffered severe injuries. She was taken to Lawrence General Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police. Officials are studying whether poor lighting was a contributing factor.
