Two Haverhill woman again took away top prizes in photography for capturing “the living landscapes, unique places and vibrant communities of Essex County” during Essex National Heritage Commission’s 2024 Photo Contest.
Kathy Diamontopoulos was awarded first place in the “Go Coastal” category for her “Sharing is Caring” image, while Alison Colby-Campbell scored the “People’s Choice Award” for her “Sunflowers” photograph. Both artists found their winning settings in Ipswich.
The Grand Prize went to Carin Macnamara of Wakefield for “Egret Fan Dancers in a Peeking Dawn,” taken on Cape Ann.
First, second and third place winners in the category, “Picture Perfect Places,” were “Spiraling in Time (PEM)” by Franco Cutietta, taken in Salem; “Rockport Peonies” by Jason Kennedy, taken in Rockport; and “Beaver Moon Rising Over Salem Harbor” by Joyce Wood, taken in Salem.
Besides Diamontopoulos, winners in the “Go Coastal!” category were “Aurora at Salem Willows” by Rick Matthias, taken in Salem, and “Moon Snails” by Bruce McBrien, taken in Newbury.
In “The Great Outdoors,” winners were “The Pink Hour” by John Abisamra, taken in Essex; “Red-winged Blackbird Feeding Chick” by Ken Jordan, taken in Topsfield; and “Lunch Time” by James Reily, taken in Salem
First, second and third place winners in the Youth category were “Dog’s Perspective” by Greyson Collins, taken in Marblehead; “Moonlit Flight” by Jason Mercurio, taken in Andover; and “Saugus Iron Works” by Alice Dunn, taken in Saugus
The public may view the 14 winning images during a reception Wednesday, Feb. 12, at 5:30 p.m., at the Salem Armory Visitor Center, 2 New Liberty St., Salem, Mass. They will also be on display during May through June at the Salem Armory Visitor Center. The reception is free, open to the public and light refreshments will be available.
Contest support came from North Shore Bank, DeIulis Brothers Construction, Geller MicroAnalytical Labs, American Tower & Steeple Co., Groom Construction, Merrimack Valley Planning Commission, Burke Insurance Agency and Rotary Club of Salem.
