A 52-year-old Haverhill man was killed Thursday in a snowmobiling accident in Jackman, Maine.
Jamie Rooney was killed when the 2017 Ski Doo MXZ850 snowmobile he was riding Thursday, before 2 p.m., crossed Hastings Road in Jackman from a snowmobile trail and was struck by a 2013 International truck, according to a release from Somerset County Sheriff’s office Chief Deputy Michael O. Mitchell.
Somerset County Deputy Sheriff Neil McMillin was dispatched to the crash site and was assisted by Jackman/Moose River Rescue and Jackman Paramedic ambulance service. Rooney, who was alone and wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene.
While the crash remains under investigation, Somerset County Sheriff’s office said it appears Rooney did not stop before attempting to cross the road.
A celebration of his life is planned for Sunday, Feb. 9, from 1-4 p.m., with Words of Remembrance beginning at 4. Arrangements are by Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 S. Main St., Haverhill.
