Before the hour glass sand ran out, legislators supported public safety home rule petitions from Haverhill and Methuen early Tuesday morning and sent them to Gov. Maura T. Healey for signatures.
The Senate ordered to a required third reading and approved a bill authorizing Gabriel Rosa to take the civil service examination police officer in Haverhill despite the maximum age requirement, while taking similar steps authorizing Juan Jimenez to take the civil service examination for Haverhill firefighter despite his age. The state House of Representatives followed suit in both cases.
The House also agreed to allow Brittany Sproule, Javier Vargas and Stephen Justice to take the civil service examination for Haverhill firefighter for the same reasons.
Previously approved and heading to Healey are similar firefighter civil service test petitions on behalf of Christina Rodriguez, Michael E. Jarvis Jr. and Dave Michienzi and police civil service tests on behalf of Gustavo Romero, Brian Dacey, Dante Perella and Jason Restituyo.
The state House of Representatives enacted a bill raising the maximum retirement age of special police officers in Methuen to 70 years old. The Senate followed suit, ordering the bill to a required third reading and then giving final approval.
The votes were among the last of the 193rd General Court.
