A 26-year-old, shot by a Haverhill detective last month after he allegedly drove into police officers conducting an investigation, is scheduled to return in January to both Haverhill and Lawrence District Courts.

Records show Christopher Roque-Joaquin of Lawrence was arraigned in Haverhill District Court Dec. 11, nearly a month after he allegedly tried to run down Haverhill police officers who conducting an investigation at the Main Street McDonald’s in Haverhill.

He will appear during a pre-trial hearing Jan. 21 before Judge Cesar A. Archilla in Haverhill District Court on such charges as six counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a dangerous weapon, leaving the scene of property damage, driving under influence of drugs, failure to stop for police, possession of a class A drug, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, driving after suspended of license and registration, driving an uninsured motor vehicle and larceny under $1,200.

Michael Keefe-Feldman, spokesman for Essex County District Attorney Paul F. Tucker, said last month Haverhill police officers approached two people in a car at the restaurant, reporting, “After officers approached the vehicle, the driver backed up into multiple police vehicles, struck an officer then proceeded to drive forward at other officers. A Haverhill officer then discharged his firearm.”

Keefe-Feldman provided updated information Monday, saying Roque-Joaquin was later treated at a hospital after being shot in the face and torso by an unidentified Haverhill Police detective.

Following the McDonald’s parking lot incident, the man managed to flee and was pursued by state and local police in several communities where, along the way, he allegedly attempted a carjacking.

Related to those actions, Roque-Joaquin is scheduled to appear Jan. 23 in Lawrence District Court. He faces such charges there as failing to stop for police, two counts of leaving the scene of property damage, resisting arrest, reckless driving, larceny under $1,200, driving with a suspended license and registration and driving an uninsured vehicle.

As WHAV previously reported, Roque-Joaquin was initially arraigned publicly only on two thefts of Red Bull last April and July and an attempted theft in August at a Market Basket. Charges related to the McDonald’s incident and his flight down Interstate 495 were handled later by police who requested a criminal complaint. Roque-Joaquin was then held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing.

Separately, Roque-Joaquin was charged with two counts of being a fugitive from justice due to outstanding warrants issued in New Hampshire related to alleged theft from a Walmart and receiving a stolen vehicle.
