Snowstorms, floods, summer outings and historic Haverhill homes are among the many photographs shown in the 2025 edition of Friends of the Haverhill Public Library calendar.
The annual calendar, available for $12 each plus sales tax, is among many holiday items for sale at the library’s Friends Shop, which helps pay for the library’s offerings. The cover of this year’s 38th edition of the calendar features Buena Vista Hotel atop a nearly treeless Ward Hill, as seen from River Street around 1900.
Other photographs are a side-by-side view of the original Haverhill Public Library and its design inspiration, the second Boston Public Library; Kendall Tavern/Pickard’s Ice Cream, 1930; Dr. Duncan MacDougall House, 1950; Merrimack Street Seawall during the Hurricane of 1938; Washington Street around 1905; Dr. George Cogswell House in 1916; World War I Victory Gardens at Winnekenni in 1917; Northeast Cove, Plug Pond around 1891; the building that became Elks Lodge; Strand Theater in 1946; Republican Presidential Nominee Wendell Willkie’s visit in 1940; Armistice Day Parade in 1923; and a rear view of John Greenleaf Whittier’s Birthplace around 1900.
The Friends Shop is open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday, from 10 a.m. to noon; at the library, 99 Main St., Haverhill.
