The Plaistow Fire Department says an in-vehicle emergency alert and location signal led rescue personnel Sunday to a crash scene with life-threatening injuries within about three and a half minutes.

Plaistow Engine 1 and Ambulance 1 were dispatched after receiving a “Crash Notification” just before 9 p.m. from OnStar with “what appeared to sound like someone gasping in the background,” officials said in a release. First responders found a vehicle that had struck a tree and a mid-20s unresponsive man.

Officials said Medflight was requested, but had an extended flight time, requiring Plaistow paramedics take the man to a local trauma center while providing life-saving care.

“Our quick response time directly impacted the outcome for this patient,” they said in the release.

Besides Engine 1 and Ambulance 1, Engine 8, Battalion 39 and Plaistow Police were on scene.
