Sen. Edward J. Markey and Congresswoman Lori Trahan both recently endorsed Governor’s Council candidate Eunice D. Zeigler.

Democrat Zeigler, a former Methuen city councilor, is running against Republican Anne Manning-Martin, a Peabody city councilor since 2008, for the open seat.

“We need leaders on the Governor’s Council who will fight for justice and transparency, and Eunice Zeigler brings that mission to District 5. Her commitment to community engagement and ability to listen to and act on the needs of her constituents sets her apart,” Markey said in a statement.

In a separate endorsement, Trahan said, “As a Congresswoman, I’ve had the opportunity to work with many local officials, and I first got to know Eunice through her role as a Methuen city councilor. Eunice consistently stands out as a leader dedicated to service. Her experience as a community advocate and her ability to deliver results are exactly what we need on the Governor’s Council. Eunice is always prepared, thoughtful and committed.”

The 5th District includes Groveland, Haverhill, Lawrence, Merrimac, Methuen, North Andover and West Newbury, among other communities.
