The Northern Essex Community College men’s soccer team ranked ninth in the week six poll released Monday afternoon by the NJCAA.
Winners of eight straight games, the Knights were sitting at 8-2 overall in the season before its return to the field Tuesday night against MassBay. The Knights eight straight wins are currently the nation’s third longest active win streak and sit atop the Region 21 standings.
On the season, 14 different Knights have found the back of the net with four players scoring at least five goals to date on the season. Offensively, Jadiel Bomfim of Nashua, N.H., leads the offense with eight goals and four assists for 20 points. He is followed right behind by Christian Colem, also of Nashua, who has six goals and seven assists for 19 points.
Sam Lucena of Tyngsborough and Lucas Cantelli of Lowell have scored six and five goals respectively with each tally one assist on the season for 13 and 11 points each on the season.
The team has outscored the opponent 41-7 on the season including five shutouts in 898 minutes of action from Will Paganini of Derry, N.H., in goal.
The Knights stay at home when they take on Community College of Rhode Island Oct. 15, 7 p.m., and Bunker Hill Oct. 19, 4:30 p.m., with both games taking place at Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High School.
