Sean Bryan has been named boys’ varsity basketball head coach at Haverhill High School.

Haverhill High School Athletic Director Thomas E. O’Brien said Thursday Bryan comes from University of Maryland Baltimore County where he was a graduate assistant coach at last year. He assisted in all aspects of the Division 1 program, which competes in the America East Conference. In 2022-23, he served as the assistant coach at his alma mater, Salem State University.

Bryan has also served as head coach for Massachusetts Rivals 15U as well as the 17U Select squad. In 2021, Bryan was an assistant coach of the Lowell High School boys varsity team. In addition, he was the head coach of the Lowell Boys and Girls Club “Peace League” for children ages 14-17.  Bryan also worked with the Lowell Basketball Club for children ages 6-13.

A two-time Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Association Men’s Basketball Player of the Year selection, Bryan had, what was described as, “an incredible career at Salem State.” He was selected to the All-America Third Team by the National Association Basketball Coaches in 2022 and was also a First Team All-Region pick. Bryan is the Vikings all-time leader in assists and is second in scoring. He is also a two-time President’s Cup recipient, awarded to the top male athlete at Salem State.

Bryan is familiar with the Merrimack Valley Conference, having starred at Lowell High School. A three-sport athlete, he was named the MVC Basketball Player of the Year in 2016.
