Groveland Police Officer Chris L’Italien was promoted to the rank of sergeant at the start of the month.

L’Italien joined the department in 2015 as a reserve officer and dispatcher, following his graduation from the Massachusetts Law Enforcement Training Alliance Reserve/Intermittent Police Academy. He joined the department as a full-time officer in 2017 after graduating from the Northern Essex Community College Police Academy.

“I am proud of Sgt. L’Italien’s dedication to our community and wish him the best of luck in his new role at the department,” said Police Chief Jeffrey T. Gillen. “He has truly made his mark here in Groveland and I am confident in his ability to take on this new challenge.”

In 2022, L’Italien received a Distinguished Service Ribbon from Groveland Police for his role and lifesaving actions during a fatal fire at the Groveland Manor Apartments. The award has only been given to one other officer since 2017.
