The Haverhill City Council last week helped a number of nonprofit groups make public pitches on behalf of their causes.

Haverhill-based Somebody Cares holds its annual Spring Ahead Fundraiser Saturday, April 22, 6:30 p.m., at Michael’s Function Hall, 12 Alpha St. It is a semi-formal. Somebody Cares is comprised almost entirely of volunteers and committed to alleviating hunger and homelessness as well as being an advocate for children, youth and the elderly. Volunteer Nomsa Ncube gave an overview.

“We are feeding over 200,000 pounds of food. We also run a youth center. We have 124 youth participating in 2022. We started with just four or five,” she told councilors.

Tickets may be purchased online at somebodycaresne.org.

Three other events, all scheduled for Saturday, April 29, include the Second Annual Car Show in support of Veterans Northeast Outreach Center. The show features many classic autos and more and runs from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., at Northern Essex Community College, 100 Elliott St., Haverhill.

That same evening, there’s laughter as the Hellenic Orthodox Community presents a night of comedy, from 7-midnight at the Hellenic Orthodox Church, 154 Winter St., Haverhill. Those interested may call 978-373-3311 for more information.

Finally, the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Haverhill holds a Walk-A-Palooza Celebration between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., that same day at the TD Bank parking lot, off Bailey Boulevard. The event, formerly known as the Walk for Youth, raises money for the organization’s programs. More information is available by calling the Boys and Girls Club at 978-374-6171.
