A stretch of Interstate 495 in Amesbury is on its way to being named the “Susannah North Martin Highway.”

Both the state House and Senate Thursday enacted the bill, sponsored by Sen. Diana DiZoglio. The highway “runs through (Martin’s) original farmstead,” according to the bill.

The proposed law would “commemorate her life and unjust persecution during the Salem Witch Trials.”

Born in England, Martin settled in Massachusetts and was accused of witchcraft, convicted, and executed in 1692.
