Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High School took part in last Friday’s National Tradesmen Day, recognizing its students and their 50 vocational instructors.
National Tradesmen Day, which is celebrated annually on the third Friday in September, honors the many hardworking tradesmen and women across the nation and the essential services that they provide.
“Here at Whittier, we recognize the importance of working in the trades in today’s society. Tradesmen, from carpenters to chefs and everything in between, help keep our country running,” Superintendent Maureen Lynch said. “Today, we celebrate all of our students for working hard to gain the skills needed to succeed in the future and thank our dedicated instructors for providing these opportunities and sharing their passion for the trades.”
Whittier Tech currently has hundreds of students pursuing various trades, including 31 in Auto Body, 33 in Auto Technology, 48 in Business Technology and Marketing, 55 in CAD Drafting , 87 in Carpentry, 57 in Cosmetology, 73 in Culinary Arts and Hospitality, 55 in Dental Assisting, 63 in Design and Visual Communications; 30 in Early Childcare, 116 in Electrical, 39 in Electronics/Robotics, 23 Engineering, 42 Health Assisting, 58 HVAC-R, 15 in Advanced Manufacturing, 18 in Masonry, 57 in Medical Assisting, 34 in Metal Fabrication and 50 in Plumbing and Heating.
Additionally, 306 ninth graders are currently participating in Whittier Tech’s Exploratory Program and will select a trade pathway in January. These ninth graders are the first class to have the opportunity to pursue Whittier Tech’s new Marine Technology vocational program.
