Haverhill Police say there were no injuries or property damage reported, but the department is investigating “a shots fired incident” that took place early Wednesday afternoon near Swasey Field.

In a Tweet, the department’s method of issuing press releases, police said the apparent shooting took place Wednesday, March 16, at 12:37 p.m. There was no entry around that time appearing on the department’s daily incident log, but a listing between 12:14 and 12:39 p.m. is blacked out without explanation.

Police said there are no suspects, but anyone who may have information is asked to call Detective Jordan Bergevine at 978-373-1212, ext. 1577.

What was called a “gang war” was kicked off by a May 2016 shooting at Swasey Field. Two people survived gunshot wounds during that incident, while no injuries were reported after shots were fired by rival gang members in a retaliatory Temple Street strike weeks later.

A series of additional shootings have been reported in the Mount Washington neighborhood with the most infamous being the May 2018 shooting murder of 20-year-old Nike Colon. Colon’s murder also did not appear on Haverhill Police incident logs.
